Electronic Locks
Electronic locks are very efficient, and usually require some form of identification in order to be deactivated. The authentication methods are of three types that can be united together for enhanced protection.
Numerical Code or Password
The most widely used method of authentication is entering a numerical code on a keypad. Typically, the keypad incorporates numbers that must be entered to allow deactivation.
Security Token
Use of a security token greatly enhances security. Only the person with a coded token can deactivate the lock. A coded token can come in different forms such as a magnetic card, coded key, remote control, or a code line.
Biometric
This method makes use of individual morphologic characteristics of an individual and is the only method that can guarantee a positive identification. For example, some electronic locks can scan fingerprints or retinas only allowing authorization when the scan matches those of an authorized person. There are biometric locks that will scan a voice as an identification method to authenticate the user.
These unique electronic locks can operate both in a stand alone mode to secure a sensitive access area, or they can be incorporated as part of a larger security system.
